Chance favors the prepared mind

Before the cheers, before the crown, before the giant fell—

David was just a shepherd.

A nameless boy in a quiet field,

Cradled by hills, watched only by the stars,

And yet, preparing.

He wasn't chasing fame.

He wasn't looking for a spotlight.

He was simply doing what was right—

Tending sheep, learning the sling, playing his harp under a tree,

Worshiping an Audience of One.

When a lion came, he didn’t run.

When a bear attacked, he didn’t hide.

He fought with courage,

Because long before anyone knew his name,

David knew his God.

So when Goliath roared and all of Israel trembled,

David didn’t need to borrow bravery.

He had already built it—stone by stone,

In silence, in solitude, in surrender.

His victory didn’t begin on the battlefield.

It began in the quiet.

As Louis Pasteur once said,

“Chance favors the prepared mind.”

The opportunity to fight Goliath was given to everyone,

But only the boy who had quietly prepared himself was ready to take it.

And perhaps, so it is with us.

When no one is clapping, will you still be faithful?

When no one is watching, will you still prepare?

Because giants are not defeated by surprise heroes—

They fall before the ones who’ve quietly been made ready.

And of course, the real hero in this story is not David,

But the One in whom David trusted with all his heart.

When we face our own giants,

We do not stand alone.

Christ is with us—

And His victory is ours.

So stay steady in the stillness.

Stay faithful in the field.

Your sling, your song, your secret prayers—

They are not wasted.

They are your preparation for a moment that only God can see.
