Connecting the Far, Disconnecting the Close

Have you ever seen this typical scene? A family is having dinner in a restaurant. The father is busy talking about business over the cell phone. The first child is busy texting. The second child is busy chatting with her Blackberry and the youngest, doesn’t have cell phone yet, is busy playing his DS. The mother? Of course she is busy ordering and desperately asking what they want to eat. Or how about those who could spend hours after hours in the social networking websites and enjoy interacting with people thousand miles away but could not stand for five minutes with their own family in their own house? Cell phones, social networks or other communication technologies are intended to connect faraway people, not to lose connectivity with the close ones.
