Mr. Joseph Jacobson on Dreams

“And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them...” -- Genesis 42:9a

Joseph had dreams once and then forgot about them for a very long time. Probably he tried to forget because every time he remembered them he felt pain in his heart. Or possibly the hardships he had to go through - being left out by his own brothers, thrown into a dark pit, being sold in a slave market, falsely accused and put into prison - contributed to his forgetful mind. Anyhow he worked hard and kept his integrity hard: telling the truth about his brothers’ evil doing, fleeing from immoral temptation and freely forgave those who had bitterly wronged him. He refused to compromise his conscience and guarded the purity of his heart with all diligence. It’s true that God was with Joseph all the time and it was the key of his success. But if he had not kept his heart right, he might have ended up like Samson or Solomon. Instead, after years of ups and downs he finished his life strong.

And so he remembered his dreams when he was already in the fulfillment of his dreams. Joseph was not obsessed with his dreams. He simply took every job given seriously, one by one, one day at a time. Little did he know, the destiny drew him closer to his dreams.

“It's not about how to achieve your dreams. It's about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you.”

p.s. To my knowledge Dr. Pausch was not a believer, so if any of you is bothered by that “karma”, you may change it into “destiny” :)
